October 5th was an exciting evening at Post Oak school, as the Post Oak Chapter of National honor Society’s (NHS) board, advisor and important members of our community gathered to host the 2020 new member induction ceremony virtually. This event marked the 6th anniversary of the Post Oak chapter and the 99th year of the National Honor Society Organization. The ceremony began with an introduction from our President Charlie McGill, followed by a statement by our chapter advisor, Ms. Hannah Mayhew, and Head of School Maura Joyce.
After a short history of the organization by Historian, Josey Gregg, the ceremony pivoted into the four pillars of NHS and what qualities make someone eligible for an esteemed role in our chapter. These four pillars — scholarship, leadership, service and character— were described by the chapter board. Secretary, Sutton Walsh, spoke about the commitment to growth and learning that all of our new members have demonstrated. Treasurer, Justin Patera, talked about what leadership looks like both inside and outside of the Post Oak Community. Vice President, Asher Forman spoke about the service aspect of NHS, and how this turns into improving the lives of others in small ways. Lastly, Historian, Josey Gregg, spoke about character, and how it is a defining feature in each of our members.
After all of this was completed, our President led the inductees in the NHS pledge which marked the formal welcoming of them into our chapter succeeded by some closing remarks from our high school Dean of Students, Dr. Jamie Lee.
Sadly no reception was able to be held for inductees and their families, but everyone was still able to pose for a photo to commemorate this special event.
